Hearing from the community

"This book will enable children to develop a heightened awareness of different cultures and promote a respect for diversity”
Canadian Commission for UNESCO

This is truly a beautiful resource! I shared the Farsi story about family with my students and we read both the English and French versions together. Farsi is not a language my students have come across before and it’s not one I can speak, read or understand, however, we looked at the words in the story and my students were mesmerized. The writing style and shapes that formed each word really caught their attention.  In sharing The Best of All Worlds we learned that unfamiliar languages are not something to be afraid of. It did not matter that not one of us was acquainted with or understood the story in Farsi.  We were intrigued and engaged.

Inspired by this resource, my students and I created a multilingual vocabulary chart showcasing the languages present in our classroom. We then labeled individual family trees and wrote accompanying poems in languages that represent each of our linguistic repertoires. Implementing The Best of All Worlds resulted in the celebration and empowerment of my students, encouraging them to take pride in, and to further promote the linguistic and cultural diversity present in our classroom every day.
